For the first 10 mins we played with 13 players although L.Welsh did have a full side and one sub but made no moves to help us with a player.
No problem.....two early tries whilst we were at only 13 players but once we went upto 14 we started to put the pressure on .
Good tackling, good lineout jumping, excellent follow up and a tremendous Bulldog spirit pulled us through to see Ben run almost the length of the pitch and out running his pursuers to put down our first try. This was then followed by another lengthy run along the wing by Michael Bianchi who is now scoring at a regular rate every game he plays. That put us at evens when we turned around at half time.
L. Welsh then brought on their sub. (last week L.Scottish put 6 subs on in order to beat us). Ben sustained a sprained ankle and had to go off so we were down to 13 players again and still no help from L.Welsh.
We put up a tremendous effort and were in the L.Welsh half for most of the game but then towards all the defence and attacking moves we played started to tell and with an overlap of two men L.Welsh in the last 5 mins put on two tries. To give a result of 12 points to 22 . BUT the moral victory was certainly with us And on the touchline both Tony and I were very impressed with how we played. Tony was also pleased to see Michael run in a try and also make some useful moves.
Everyone played out of their skins and it was a proud game .
It was marred at the very end AFTER the whistle had blown when Hugh was pinned by two players and totally helpless and No 3 from L.Welsh landed a haymaker on him. The ref did not see it but it as a totally unprovoked attack.
I am as a matter of some concern bringing this to the attention of the L.Welsh Sec. We do not wish to make an issue but it must not go without comment.
In The Bulldogs we have a proud tradition and we must always place ourselves above any ungentlemanly play..we set the example ...others follow and we must never allow ourselves to reduce these high standards or lower them to the levels of others.
We will refrain from playing L.Welsh until we have had a reply.
